4 Simple Drills That Can Take Your Wedge Play To The Next Level

How good is your wedge play? Have you ever taken time to compare yourself with someone else and figured out how good or bad you are on wedge play? If you have not done this before, perhaps you should. Of course it would be preposterous for you to compare yourself with the professional players, especially if you are just a beginner, but there is nothing wrong with setting your ambitions so high. If possible, find someone that you train with from time to time, and challenge them to some wedge play.

Once you have understood where you stand, try and figure out how to improve on the wedges. The following are some simple drills that will make your work easier when you are trying to get your wedge play from one level to the other:

  • Improve your alignment
  • Work on your set up
  • Open the face of your club
  • Control the yards

Improve your alignment

If you cannot align yourself properly with respect to the shots, there is a good chance that you will not make the wedge shot properly. The first thing that you have to do therefore is to look into the prospect of improving your alignment, and then from there you can work on other things.

It would also be advisable for you to get a professional trainer to assist you with this, so that you have a clearer perspective of what you are working on.

Work on your set up

It might sound so simple, but it is the simple things that at times give people a difficult time. The setup is a big problem particularly for the recreational players, and this eventually carries over to your game when you decide to become serious about it. Do not stand too far away from the ball. This is perhaps one of the most common mistakes.

Open the face of your club

In the event that the face of your wedge is open, you are definitely not ready to take this shot at all. In fact, you are actively setting up for disaster. The additional loft will only make it more difficult for you to be accurate on the stroke.

Control the yards

From such a short distance, it is not a good thing for you to come up short with a number of yards, or exceed your target. You need to put in more practice to land within a reasonable yard distance.
